How to Avoid Aggressive Encounters When Drinking

Alcohol affects how you behave. Scientists believe that alcohol can encourage violence or aggression by disturbing the normal functions of the brain. There is a theory that says alcohol deteriorates the mechanisms of the brain that controls the impulsive behaviours. As a result, your ability to judge a situation will be clouded. This theory is called Disinhibition Hypothesis.       1-20090701-1664-1021-pic

You should learn how to avoid aggressive encounters so you will not regret everything when you are sombre. Here’s how:

1. Stay sober. The realization not to drink should come to you. You need to stay sober all throughout the day so you can perform all your duties and avoid accidents. You should be serious when you think about staying sober.

2. Decline politely. The first thing that you need to do is decline any invitation politely. You have to stay away from the temptation in the first place. It may be hard to decline but you should do it anyway.

3. Drink slowly. If you cannot decline an invitation, join the gathering for the sake of company. You can explain your choice of drink and if you should drink liquors, make sure that you drink slowly.

4. Do not drink and drive. Some of traffic accidents are caused by drunk drivers. When you are too drunk, do not push it. You should take a cab or let your sober friend drive you home.

It is okay to drink but you should know your limits and learn to stop when the need arises. If you have problems with stopping, you should ask for the help of other people. If you have to, you should join therapy sessions and support groups. The important thing is you do not give up.
